Author school visits are a common practice throughout the world. After all, schools want to encourage the children to make reading and writing a natural part of their lives. Inspiration and understanding flows from the visiting author to the children and gives them an uplifting change to normal school life.

It is definitely true that reading a good book or using the imagination to construct a new fantasy adventure, is bound to feed their young minds. Successful education is built upon the secure foundation of quality reading and writing.

Many activities in life depend upon good literacy skills, from being inventive with language to understanding the directions on a container of frozen groceries. Young people can be encouraged into the wonderful world of words by an author visiting their school.

For everyone it is a memorable occasion when an author visit takes place. The author may speak to small groups of children or large gatherings in the school hall.

The children will gain true knowledge because it comes directly from the author.  They will learn about the essential qualities of a highly practised writer. They will hear about how and why the visiting author began to enjoy writing books. They will see into the ups and downs of an author’s life.

Authors are often asked, “How do you create such a unique plot?” The reply from an actual author will come from years of practice and make a real impact on children. The creation of ideas is very important to an author of fiction and they can talk about it with enthusiasm. They can give examples of moments of inspiration. Through all this, the pupils will discover their ability to be creative when writing.

Another important part of an author’s visit to a school is the opportunity for children to buy books. The books are personally signed by the author which makes them unique to each child. This means that the book they have bought to read is also a special reminder of the day.

If you want to help children’s education then organise author school visits. Their reading will be encouraged in a revitalising and enjoyable manner.
