Is It Right To Buy Halloween Costumes For Pets?

At times, all of us have seen the cute small pets all dressed up with costumes on. With Halloween right around the corner many of you may be considering buying a dog Halloween costume. Here are some tips to help you with your decision if this is right for you and your dog. There are a couple of matters you should think about before you buy a costume for your pet, the main one being how your dog will react to it. While some pets actually enjoy dressing up in adorable little outfits, others may not enjoy this. Those who do not may simply rip the outfit off, or chew it to shreds. In this event then you may very well be wasting your time and cash. One way to check this is simply to put a top you don’t need on your dog to see how it reacts before wasting money on the costume. This way you will know in advance whether or not this is for your dog. Another thing to consider is cost. If cheap is your go, then this may be a good time to practice your sewing skills. There are also designs you can get if you like. Of course this will mean that you will have to be accurate with your pet’s measurements. But don’t count on him or her standing very still for fittings. If you have children then make this a great family project. Children can be very creative and allowing them come up with the costume could be a less expensive and easy way to go. Of course for the spoilt pet nothing but the best will do. For these costumes you could go to a pet specialty store or even possibly a boutique or maybe more easily on the internet. It is probable this is going to cost you a few dollars though. Most of these run from about $5 for the most basic to about $40. You should also think about the safety of your dog. If your pet will simply be in the house or right by your side then it may not be a problem. If not then you should be very careful to make sure that the dog can see well and that it is visible to others. You should also make sure that there is no chance of choking or strangling. Then decide upon what exactly you would like your dog to dress up as. Remember that this could be a lot of work especially if you have a large animal. Of course smaller animals can be quite squirmy and may even be more apt to try and snap at you. The larger ones can probably do more damage though. Everything considered, this could be quite fun for you and the kids if you have the right dog for the costume. The neighborhood kids will probably get a real kick out of dogs running around in costumes. Of course the neighbors may baulk at giving them any candy. Whatever your decision, be sure to have a safe and happy Halloween!
